Broadway stars greet dozens of fans daily at the stage door, but sometimes their biggest fans are waiting at home: their dogs! In honor of the annual Broadway Barks dog and cat adoption event (on July 13 in Shubert Alley), we reached out to some of our favorite pet-owning performers and asked them to spill about their loyal four-legged friends. First up, Motown the Musical’s Tony-nominated diva Valisia LeKae opens up about her three perfect pooches: Cosby, Rosie and Katie!
VALISIA LeKAE (Diana Ross in Motown the Musical)
What is your pet's name and breed?
They are all mutts (mix breeds).
Cosby: Poodle/Bichon
Katie: Poodle/Bichon
Rosie: Shiba Inu/Husky mix
How did your pet get its name?
Cosby: He's named after Bill Cosby...I'm a fan.
Katie: Oddly enough, all the women in my family seem to name their daughters Kay, Katie, LeKae... so of course I named my little girl Katie!
Rosie: I had a dog who recently died named Rocket; Rosie got her name because it sounded good with Rocket.
What is your pet's favorite pastime?
Cosby: Playing fetch with the ball.
Katie: Playing fetch with the ball and eating.
Rosie: She used to love licking Rocket's eyeballs.
Does your pet know any tricks?
Katie knows how to beg.
What's the funniest thing your pet has done?
The three of them together are pretty funny. Their personalities are all so different. Just watching them interact makes me laugh out loud.
What's the naughtiest thing your pet has ever done?
Pull the stuffing out of their dog beds.
Do you look like your pet?
In the winter I start to look like Katie and Cosby!
